# Vision

Producer Pal exists to **help people make music** instead of using AI to make
music for them.

It's a creative assistant: a tool for learning, exploring ideas, getting past
technical barriers, and turning musical intent into sound. The musician is in
the driver's seat.

## Empowering musicians

Music production software is powerful, but it can be hard to learn and slow or
tedious to operate. Producer Pal makes that power more accessible by helping
beginners express ideas before mastering the software, and giving experienced
producers faster ways to work.

Accessibility also means physical accessibility.
[Voice control](/guide/chat-ui#voice-mode) lets musicians operate Live and make
detailed changes without depending entirely on a mouse/trackpad and keyboard.

Accessibility doesn't mean removing depth or making decisions for you. It means
helping more people engage with that depth on their own terms.

## Freedom of choice

New technology should create freedom, not lock-in. Producer Pal is built to work
with any AI and
[officially supports many AI providers](/installation/choose-by-provider). This
includes [local models](/installation/choose-local) you can run for free without
an internet connection. You can pick what matches your needs, budget, hardware,
and privacy expectations.

You can also skip AI entirely and drive Live through the
[REST API](/guide/rest-api) to automate it with scripts or build custom user
interfaces.

There's no single "correct" way to use it. You control your models, your data,
your workflow, and [how the assistant behaves](/guide/customizing-skills).

## Open by design

Producer Pal is open source. Its values:

- **Openness** — free to use, study, modify, and build upon
- **Transparency** — no hidden behavior or misleading claims
- **Interoperability** — works across models, providers, and tools
- **User control** — your data, workflow, and creative decisions stay yours
- **Extensibility** — [adaptable](/extending) to workflows its creator never
  anticipated
- **Practical benefit** — judged by whether it genuinely helps, not by novelty

## Still evolving

Producer Pal started as one musician's experiment and is growing into something
for many. These principles don't prescribe how anyone should make music. They
guide how Producer Pal is built, and they're an invitation to help shape what it
becomes.
